Thanks for visiting my page. I’m Nick Williams, passionate about improving health and performance. I’m a qualified Nutritional Therapist and have worked as a performance coach for over 25 years.
I have dramatically improved my own health and for many others. I hope that I get the opportunity to work with you on your health goals.
Here’s a little bit about me and what brought me into Nutritional Therapy.
Most of my childhood was in the 1980’s, around the start of convenience foods and TV dinners. Although I probably knew what good and bad was, my eating choices were poor. Included in my diet were plenty of refined carbohydrates, fizzy pop and sugar. I had a phobia of fish, eggs, mushrooms, cheese to name a few. You could say that I was a pretty fussy eater unless it was sugary and refined.
As much as my diet was poor, I seemed to get away with it. I was naturally gifted at sport and was the captain of my football team, cricket team, basketball team at school. But my main sporting passion was tennis (hence ACE Nutrition!). As a child, I moved from the club to playing for the county, the region and into the national championships (at one stage, ranked in the top 30 players in the UK). I played for the Mens senior county team. I was lean but I was just burning sugar as fuel. No consideration for protein or fat requirements. It comes back to haunt me later as you will see.
I then stopped playing tennis and pretty much became overweight overnight. After gaining a degree, working a few office jobs, I decided to follow my passion for tennis and I became a tennis coach to help people improve their performance in tennis. That was in the mid 1990’s. I carried this extra weight with me for the first 15 years of tennis coaching.
I was doing really well with my career, creating some wonderful tennis players who went on to represent GB. We even won the national championships with a boys team. I moved into coach education and started to deliver, then write coaching qualifications for the UK tennis coaching market. I set up my own coach education business and became the third largest provider in the UK.
My career was going great, but still overweight, eating lots of processed foods and bread. I had acid reflux from early teens, was diagnosed as having IBS with severe stomach discomfort, had an autoimmune condition called discoid lupus, I was having energy slumps. I was now starting to get some pain around the hip area. Mobility in the hip was starting to become limited. I looked at a photo of myself with my new baby daughter and I knew things had to change.
Around 2010, my partner and I started looking at nutrition and lifestyle and the role it plays in health. We experimented with different nutritional plans such as the paleo diet then cutting out meat, then cutting out all animal products, clean eating, no processed foods, better sleep, stress reduction. It has been a fascinating journey.
We now eat mostly a whole foods diet. I haven’t suffered with acid reflux for years. No signs of IBS. My autoimmune condition is under control. I now have unlimited energy. My hip will need replacing and I have no doubt that the diet played a large role in this but it is not something I fear now.
I have gained so much information over these years in supporting my own health. It is my nature to help and guide people and wanted to be able to pass this information on to others.
If you have managed to read this far, well done and thanks! I love working with people and hope to be able to support you in whatever nutritional challenge you face. Please don’t hesitate to contact me.
